King, Henry William



Henry William King

Henry William King was born 28 August 1892 in London England. His next of kin was listed as his brother, Richard King in Head Lake ON. Also noted in Henry’s will was his wife in London and Miss Violet Rivers of Kinmount.

He enlisted with the 109th Battalion in Lindsay on 5 December 1915, and was assigned to the band due to a hammer toe that was noted on his physical. He was subsequently taken on strength by the 124th Canadian Pioneers Battalion after arriving in England.

According to his Circumstances of Casualty report: “Whilst on duty with a working party engage in Light Railway construction work near Passchendaele the enemy opened up a heavy shell fire on the position. Private King was wounded by shrapnel in the buttocks, back, left thigh and left hand and rendered unconscious. After receiving first aid he was taken to No. 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station where he succumbed to his injuries.”

Henry King is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinghe Belgium. He was 25 years old.
