While night flying near Fingal, the plane of which he was a pilot, crashed and Sergt.-Pilot Edwin Donald Hawkins, 19, was killed, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hawkins, formerly of Milverton Blvd., but now of Lindsay, have been informed. Born in Toronto, he attended Earl Beatty school and Riverdale collegiate before enlisting in February, 1943. Surviving are his parents, a brother, P/O. Tom Hawkins, flying instructor at St. Eugene, and a sister, Mrs. John Wenzel, McRae Drive.

Airman Killed in plane crash
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hawkins, 58 Wellington Street, were shocked to learn on Sunday of the death of their younger son, Sgt. Edwin D. Hawkins, R. C. A. F. in a plane crash on Saturday during a night training flight.
Sgt. Hawkins was attached to Fingal Bombing and Gunnery School as a staff pilot. He received his wings at Penhold, Alta., early this year at the age of 19.
The funeral will be held in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Besides his parents the young pilot is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Wenzel, Toronto, and a brother P.O. Thos, Hawkins, an instructor at St. Eugene, Ontario. Mr. Hawkins Sr., is employed at the C.N.R. Lindsay.

Airman is Victim of Fingal Crash
Victim of a plane crash near Fingal while night flying, Sgt. Pilot Edwin Donald Hawkins, 19, will be buried tomorrow afternoon in St. John’s Cemetery. Norway, when six of his comrades will be pallbearers. No details of their son's death were included in the notification from Ottawa, according to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hawkins, formerly of 675 Milverton Blvd.. who are now living in Lindsay, but are here for the funeral. The young flier was born in Toronto and attended Earl Beatty School and Riverdale Collegiate Institute before enlisting in the RCAF in February. 1943. He received his earlier training at Ottawa, Three Rivers and Penhold. Alta., was stationed at the Bombing and Gunnery School, Fingal, when he was killed.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, F/O Tom Hawkins, a flying instructor at St. Eugene; a sister, Mrs. John Wenzel, Toronto.

A military funeral was held in Toronto yesterday for Sgt. Pilot Edwin D. Hawkins, 19-year-old son of Mrs. Edwin Hawkins of town, who was killed in an airplane crash on Saturday night.
Surviving the departed airman besides his mother are a sister, Mrs. John Wenzel of Toronto, and a brother, P/O. Thomas Hawkins, an instructor with the RCAF at St. Eugene, Que.
